PADI Dive Instructor, Sam Jupe is being referred to as a hero. Earlier this month Sam was on a holiday in Fiji when he performed an incredible whale rescue.  While on a charter boat, Sam noticed the distressed whale, which had its tail tangled in commercial fishing gear.

Sam reports that because of his experiences in the water as a PADI Dive Instructor currently at Dive HQ Westhaven, he was confident and calm when saving the 12 meter whale. Using only a blunt knife, it took Sam four or five attempts to cut the whale free of the rope.

Most people dream of simply spotting one of these majestic creatures, let alone saving one. Sam described this courageous act as “a bit of a whirl wind” at the time, however this exhilarating experience will forever remain one of the most memorable holiday activities of all time.
